10 Steps to a Great Relationship: What Every Couple Should Know About Love
Published in Paperback by Stepwise Pr (April, 1998)
Author: Howard J. Rankin
Average review score:

It's all about understandings.
Understandings are important for any relationships. Having gone through step 1 to 10 in the book, I started to understand more what love really is, what I can/cannot control, and what to expect in my relationship. In fact, applying what I've learned from the book with my real-life relationship, I have puzzled out one frustrating issue inside my wife's unconscious mind about fear and insecurity. Once I made sense out of it and explain to her, things are really improving now.

Makes your heart pump, your eyes burn & goosebumps jump out!
Hannibal was fantastic! You can't put it down. The story twists in ways you cannot imagine. If you love thrillers, this is the book for you...but don't read it when your alone! It's scary!!

Sensible guidelines to waking up your relationships
I found Dr Rankin's book 10 Steps to a Great Relationship really helpful and enjoyable. It has always seemed to me that people use the word "love" in many different confusing ways and the book helped me understand what love really is. I liked the author's easy style, case histories and humor and I especially appreciated his non-judgmental tone and useful techniques that helped me assess my strengths and weaknesses as well as giving me practical suggestions about how I could improve in love.

Messages from Anna: Lessons in Living...Santa Claus, God and Love

Messages From Anna Lessons in Living...Santa Claus, God &
The first time I read this book was about ten years ago. I have read it many times, each time gaining new inspuration and a feeling of peace. Since then I have become a chemical dependence counsellor and have asked many patients to read this wonderful & influential book. "Messages From Anna" has had a powerful impact on my patients and my journey to recovery. I'm greatful I found this, my most favorite book, one dark day many years ago.

Definitely a Keeper
I bought this book during a troubled time in my life and have found myself rereading it for pleasure or lending it to friends (right after they swear they will treasure it and give it back to me in the same condition they received it!). I am an avid reader but if I could only keep one of my books, it would have to be Messages from Anna. I am often reminded of Fahrenheit 451 where people are not allowed to have books so they memorize them in order to share them with others. Messages from Anna would have to be mine.

Insipirational, amusing and down to earth
If only we all had an "Anna" in our lives from whom we could draw wisdom, and if we could only find the time and the humility to accept it... I first read the book ten years ago and received it's many gifts, I have given it as a gift many times to troubled friends in need of hope or guidance. I now have two copies I covet as the book is out of print. I revisit the book from time to time and I always find a new pearl. It is worth the search to locate one if you can find it, but I imagine most people would not part with it. I won't.

Red Twilight : The Last Free Days of the Ute Indians
Published in Paperback by Yellow Cat Publishing (23 October, 2000)
Authors: V. S. Fitzpatrick, Dalton Storm of Change Carr, and M. Wilson Reminiscences of Frontier Days Rankin
Average review score:

A window into a yesteryear of the western frontier
Red Twilight: The Last Free Days Of The Ute Indians is a remarkable eye-witness testament to the plight of the Ute Indians. Val FitzPatrick was born January 4, 1886 and lived to the age of 102. All his life was spent in northwestern Colorado and gave him an intimate knowledge of the Northern Utes (especially the Whiteriver band) after their encounter with the white man's culture. FitzPatrick provides the modern reader with a window into a yesteryear of the western frontier during the time of white settlers displacing the Utes from the homelands. This is an account more accurate and compelling that those of the newspaper journalists of the day were able to print. Very highly recommended for personal and academic Native American studies collections, Red Twilight is enhanced with a rare oral history by one of the Ute warriors who fought in the Battle of Milk Creek; excerpts from the diary of early cowboy Wils Rankin (nephew of Joe Rankin, scout of the ill-fated Major Thornburg); and a special section describing life on the Uintah-Ouray Reservation in the 1950s and 60s.

A remarkable eye-witness testament, highly recommend!

The story as it REALLY happened. Fascinating!
This book is unique - it tells the story of the removal of the Ute Indians from a sympathetic viewpoint, and by one who was there. Val FitzPatrick was a settler in northwest Colorado when the Utes were displaced into Utah and forced from their ancestral homelands. The real story is different from what white history records.

Well written, great reading, and fascinating first-hand stories. If you like reading about the West and its history or American Indians, you can't go wrong here. The author was there and is a great writer. He personally knew the Utes. Winner of an award from the Utah Humanities Council and used in their diversity program. I also highly recommend FitzPatrick's other book, "The Arbuckle Cafe: Classic Cowboy Stories."

The Complete Book of Wreaths: 200 Delightful & Creative Designs
Published in Paperback by Sterling Publications (30 June, 2001)
Author: Chris Rankin
Average review score:

Beautiful Book
I picked up this book to see if I would be able to make some wreaths for my home. Having never done it before, it is very encouraging to see the instructions photographed and clearly written in this book. The wreaths are absolutely gorgeous and detailed, and I loved seeing the different types. Being a beginner, I also appreciated the listings of all the flowers and supplies needed for each wreath, which are included in the descriptions. I'm buying it for my daughter, Emily, who has made some nice wreaths on her own. I recommend this book to anyone who is serious about making something beautiful for their home.

200 Wreaths by Very Talented Wreath Makers
What kind of wreath do you want to make?

Oh, you want to make a square wreath? Oh, you want to make three wreaths entwined together?

What! you want to make a vine wreath with each vine a different color?

No problem. How to make these wreaths and 197 more are in this book. The Complete Book of Wreaths is really a compendium of the wreaths of many different wreath makers. Most of these wreath makers have had other books published. It is great to find all of their talents pooled in this one work.

The first 40 pages of this book are devoted to wreath making basics. These are concise instructions on how choose or even make your own wreath base as well as basic points for choosing materials to complement your wreath, like seed pods and ribbons.

The next 180 pages are a wreath a page in full color with descriptions for each one that explain what is in the wreath and how to create one like it.

The last section is on Novel wreaths like all feathers and potatoes and moss???? And, you won't want to miss Terry Taylor's wreath of broken cups and cup handles.

This book only has wreaths, just wreaths and it is wonderful.

The Garden of Unearthly Delights
Published in Hardcover by Transworld Publishers Ltd (01 October, 1995)
Author: Robert Rankin
Average review score:

Crazy as a holy trout
Weird, wacky, wild. Crazy, cracking, cold. Barmy, bonkers, batty. Strange, stupid, silly.

Sorely Maligned
This is a rare foray into pure fantasy for Rankin, and this genre switch, along with it not being part of a series - something Rankin had hitherto pretty much stuck to - threw quite a few of his readers, and as such this book has become possibly the most underrated of his works. Having recently re-read it, i found "The Garden..." to be absolutely, fantastically insane, and I think Rankin should, once again, be applauded for having the guts to just let his imagination flow onto the page, and damn the conventions of "sanity." Max Carrion, Imagineer, is one of Rankin's best characters, and people should give this book more of a chance.

Introducing Newton and Classical Physics
Published in Paperback by Totem Books (01 October, 2000)
Authors: William Rankin and Richard Appignanesi
Average review score:

User-Friendly Newton
This is one of the best of these illustrated "Introducing" books I've read so far. You won't learn that much practical knowledge of calculus or physics from this 170-page volume; however, you will get a lot of tasty info on Newton's life, his theories, his conflicts, and his eccentricities.

I found particularly interesting the fact that Newton wrote as many words about alchemy and other occult subjects as he did about mechanics and calculus. His notion of "action at a distance" (e.g., gravitational attraction), for example, was probably inspired by his alchemical research.

Also, it's a shame Newton decided to spend his later years running the British Mint, wanting do something more useful with himself than perform further research!

I also enjoyed the author's brief polemic against Galileo, apparently one of the most obnoxious takers of credit in the history of ideas.

It's a fun book, and informative. I may track down a few of the others mentioned in the bibliography.

Let Newton be!
This is a book from series of book including Einstein,Quantum theory,The Universe,Chaos,Stephen Hawking, etc. If you like this book, you might want to collect other books in series. The book presented Newton's life and works on science in illustrative, humurous way.It is also factual so for those who want detail descriptions and formal presentation probably dislike. For general reader it is an excellent book.Everyone know that Newton is the great man in science so this book tried to tell you in different way. Also recommended for secondary students. They will find about a giant in Physics in very interesting way.

The Little Cat and the Greedy Old Woman: Story and Pictures

Great for reading aloud!
"The Little Cat and the Greedy Old Woman" is a wonderful book for sharing aloud! The story is well-written, and the pictures are adorable and expressive. I am a children's librarian and have used it in storytimes with great success. The children just love this book!

Exceptional illustrations reveal cat's opinions!
Usually illustrations are just pictures. This artist has used illustrations to reveal the cat's feelings and thoughts in a manner any child can see and relate to. Exceptionally funny and clever artwork. My children love to look at this book themselves as they can SEE the cat think!

Magnolias (A Care Manual)
Published in Hardcover by Laurel Glen (03 March, 1999)
Author: Graham Rankin
Average review score:

The perfect gift for the magnolia fancier
What a wonderful book this is. In my collection I got most of the books published about magnolias and this has a rare perfection that caughts the eye. Wonderful design and trully impressive colour pics all over. You won't see a more detailed magnolia propagation pics on earth! . The information is excellent and do not know of any other book about magnolias more enjoyable than this one. Of course there are books with more info about magnolias, used as a reference, but this is the straight door to enter into 'Magnolia Kingdom' and certainly the perfect gift for anyone even remotely interested on these fascinating flowering trees...

Beautiful pictures, great book
I loved this book. Perfect for newbie and greenthumb alike. Everything you ever wanted to know about Magnolias: from their weird prehistoric (!) history to the hundreds of varieties available today. There's even a catalog at the back of all different magnolias with individual pictures and history. I especially loved the chapter on "Plant Hunters," men (and women too!) who traipsed the wilds of nineteenth-century Asia looking for "undiscovered" strains of magnolias. A great coffeetable book but also a great guide to these beautiful flowering trees.

Sex & Drugs & Sausage Rolls
Published in Hardcover by Trafalgar Square (November, 2000)
Author: Robert Rankin
Average review score:

Not the Best but Still a Classic!
Anyone who has read other books by Robert Rankin will not be surprised at the bizarre and convoluted plot that is his trade mark.

Whilst this book isn't as good as dome he has written, it's still hugely funny and well worth reading. A word of caution however, read the earlier books first and you will enjoy this one more, there are all sorts of references to previous books of Rankin's which, whilst not important to the story, will improve your enjoyment just that little bit more.

The title says it all!
Very little sex though real or simulated but keep on reading and... you will laugh really hard twice on each page and chuckle to yourself in between. That said this book is best not to be read in public or in transit, for obvious reasons. This is my third Rankin read and I am continuing through his work but I think this will remain one of my favorite. It has: A Beatles reunion no less, although a Serbian SF/Horror writer had that on before Mr. Rankin. The reason why not to use the internet, demonic possession explained, the Terminator rip off (We all know James Cameron had to pay off Harlan Ellison for his rip off) Definition of Rock 'n Roll as it should be. And the extraordinary funny bit with stable boys, buckets and gene splicing!

Rants of a madman
Mr Rankin is without any doubt insane and I think he would agree if he could escape from the asylum to tell us. I started reading his books about 200 years ago and have not recovered since. A comic genius maybe, but without any doubt insane!
